How to use AND Blood Pressure Monitor (UA-611) - Hu Med Health Blog Sri Lanka

The AND UA-611 is one of the most popular upper arm blood pressure monitors available in Sri Lanka. This step-by-step guide will help you get accurate readings every time.

Parts of the Machine

  • Display unit with LCD screen
  • Upper arm cuff with air hose
  • Battery compartment (4 × AA batteries)
  • START/STOP button

Installing / Changing the Batteries

  • Remove the battery cover from the back of the unit.
  • Remove any used batteries from the compartment.
  • Insert new batteries, taking care that the polarities (+) and (−) are correct.
  • Replace the battery cover. Use only R6P, LR6 or AA batteries.

Connecting the Air Hose

Insert the air connector plug firmly into the air socket. There should be no air leaks in the hose connection.

Selecting the Correct Cuff

Using the correct cuff size is important for an accurate reading. If the cuff is not the proper size, the reading may yield an incorrect blood pressure value. The arm size range is printed on each cuff.

Applying the Arm Cuff

  1. Wrap the cuff around the upper arm, about 1 to 2 cm above the inside of the elbow.
  2. Place the cuff directly against the skin — clothing may cause inaccurate readings.
  3. Do not roll up a sleeve too tightly, as constriction may prevent accurate readings.
  4. Confirm that the index line falls within the proper fit range markers on the cuff.

Normal Blood Pressure Readings

  • Systolic pressure: 120 – 150 mm Hg
  • Diastolic pressure: 60 – 90 mm Hg
  • Pulse rate: Average 72 bpm (varies person to person)

Tips for Accurate Readings

  • Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring.
  • Avoid coffee, smoking, or exercise 30 minutes before measurement.
  • Sit with your back supported and feet flat on the floor.
  • Rest your arm at heart level on a flat surface.
  • Do not talk during measurement.
