How to Use Major II Glucose Meter - Hu Med Health Blog Sri Lanka

Major II is a glucometer made in Taiwan and imported to Sri Lanka. The glucometer is widely available in Sri Lanka as it has been used here for more than 15 years. This guide is a step-by-step process on how to use the Major II Glucometer.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Insert the battery – Open the battery compartment and insert the required battery as indicated.
  2. Set date, time and mg/dL – Fix the date, time, and unit (mg/dL) using the black button on the back of the meter.
  3. Insert the white chip – Insert the white coding chip into the meter to register the strip batch code. This step calibrates the meter for your current strip batch.
  4. Set up the lancing device – After inserting the white chip, load the lancing device with a lancet from the pack.
  5. Adjust the lancing device – Adjust the depth setting on the lancing pen according to your skin thickness.
  6. Insert a test strip – Insert the strip into the glucometer with the two black lines at the edge facing forward. Do not press any button — the meter will turn on automatically.
  7. Obtain a blood sample – Use the lancing device on your fingertip and place the blood drop onto the two black arrows on the test strip.
  8. Read the result – The machine will count down from 5 seconds and then display your blood sugar level.

Important Tips

  • Always close the strip vial after taking a strip out — strips exposed to air lose accuracy.
  • Use the side of your fingertip rather than the center for less discomfort.
  • Make sure your hands are clean and dry before testing.
  • Check the expiry date on the strip container before use.
  • Store strips at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Understanding Your Results

  • Normal (Fasting): 70–100 mg/dL
  • Pre-diabetes: 100–125 mg/dL
  • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL or higher
  • Normal (2 hrs after meal): Below 140 mg/dL
